PSIL offers a regular intake of trainee graduates from the Uva Province, who after a one year training period, are offered managerial grade employment with the Company.
Since 2002, PSIL has employed 116 graduates, whose degrees span a gamut of disciplines such as Agriculture, Engineering, Accountancy and Finance, Food Science, Survey, Banking and Finance, Accounting, Marketing, HR, Entrepreneurship and Sociology.
The Company also provides training facilities for students who follow courses at Universities, NDT (National Diploma in Technology), Technical Colleges, NAITA (National Apprentice and Industrial Training Authority) and the Institute of Engineering Technology.

To elaborate further, training facilities are afforded to those who follow Bachelor of Science Degree courses in Engineering (Mechanical), Engineering (Chemical), Business Management and Agriculture, as well as to students following BBA courses in Accounting and Finance and Human Resources Management.
PSIL offer training facilities to students following NDT courses in selected fields of specialty e.g. Chemical Engineering and Mechanical Engineering.
In-plant training is also offered to students from the Technical Colleges, such as, the Technical Colleges of Moneragala and Badulla.
In accordance with the agreement between PSIL and NAITA, PSIL provided training facilities to 45 students in following trades: accounts clerk, motor mechanic, electrician, boiler attendant, fitter, lathe man, carpentry, refrigeration and air conditioning, hydraulic mechanic, diesel engine mechanic and room boy.


The Company began an initiative in May 2006 to fund the teachers in rural schools in the Moneragala district. Pelwatte Navodya MV, Ranjan Wijeratne MV, Kukurampola KV, Kumaragama KV and Munasinghe KV are benefited under the program.
Each year PSIL conducts seminars for Year 5 and GCE ‘O’ Level students drawn from schools in the Moneragala District. Participants are provided with transport facilities, lunch and refreshments by the Company.

The Company also encourages students to attend schools regularly. PSIL provides funding for nine buses that run daily to and from schools in the vicinity of company premises at Buttala.
PSIL refurbished the building and furniture of the library at Kukurampola Vidyalaya.
There is tremendous talent on display in schools of the settler areas in the field of sports. PSIL is committed to nurturing this talent. The company provided heavy machinery required to prepare playgrounds in the Ranjan Wijeratne MV., the Pelwatte Navodya MV and the Kukurampola KV. The Company has become the main sponsor of sports meets and the cultural activities of schools in the vicinity of the enterprise.
