Based on the assumed milk collection, the project will initially install a milk processing plant which can process 20,000 liters of fresh milk/day with provisions for future expansion. The proposed capacity of 20,000 liters/day processing could be doubled (i.e. 40,000 liters/day) by operating two shifts/day. The aim of the company is to meet 15 percent of the milk products requirement of the country.

The milk products that are scheduled to produce at the commencement are as follows

  • Pasteurized milk
  • Sterilized milk
  • Yoghurt
  • Ice Cream
  • Butter
  There will be no marketing problems for the end products since there is a huge gap between local production and requirement. The project will develop distribution means and channels to sell the products directly to the door step of urban households. Further product could be sold in the supermarkets, restaurants and hotels in the Uva Province, Eastern Province and Hambantota district.
